Released as part of Diageo’s Special Releases 2023, Mortlach Special Release 2023 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, entitled “The Katana’s Edge”, a stunning expression that embodies stunning impact and unrivaled complexity and precision. The Mortlach Distillery is famed for its sweet yet savory taste, unique amongst other Speyside distilleries. Inspired by this contrasting spark of umami, this Mortlach expression captures the flavors of Japan, finishing a portion of this whisky in ex-Kanosuke Japanese Whisky casks. To balance the sweetness of the ex-Japanese whisky casks, the remaining whisky is finished in ex-pinot noir casks, resulting in a combination as deep and complex as the might katana. The nose opens with enticing aromas of ripe melon and pear, setting the stage for a sensory journey. On the palate, drily spiced savoury flavours cut through a scintillating sweetness.
