Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Oat Bourbon Whiskey is an experimental release, exploring a variation of Buffalo Trace’s typical bourbon mash bill. Rye is the customary secondary grain used in BT’s bourbon mash bill #1. However, to create this unique bourbon, rye was replaced with oats in the recipe. Released in 2011, this experimental release has aged for over 9 years on the 7th floor of warehouse I before being bottled at 45% ABV (90-proof). The result is a pleasant smoky nose with a rich aroma of toasted oats that offers a nice complexity. On the palate, the smokiness intrigues as hints of dried fig and stone fruit come through, and eventually give way to an earthy finish. …
