This Laphroaig 10-year-old Islay single malt is a one-liter edition that was bottled for the travel market in the 1980s, before the Royal Warrant was awarded to the distillery, and comes complete with an original tube.

Laphroaig is a Scotch Whisky distillery on the western Scottish island of Islay and one of the best known of all the single malts. It is marketed as “the most richly flavored of all Scotch whiskies” and is known for its powerful peaty aromas. It is the only whisky to carry the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, which was awarded in 1994.

The distillery’s history begins in 1815. Donald and Alexander Johnston had leased 1000 acres (250 hectares) from the laird of Islay a few years earlier to raise cattle and planted barley for feed. By 1815 – on the official founding of the distillery – the pair had gained a reputation for the whisky made from their surplus crop, using a local water source low in minerals but soft and peaty. It had soon become more profitable to distill whisky.
