Description

A now closed distillery that was situated near Carron in Speyside and demolished in 2013 and replaced by the new Dalmunach distillery on the same site. Owes its name to the patriotism inspired by Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee (1897) and was part of the original whisky distillery building boom at the end of that century. Nose: Rich tea or digestive biscuits, herbal honey, pine nuts, sour apple, singed straw, leafy. Palate: Poached pears in syrup, clove spice, almond milk, ginger latte, subtle smoke, herbs, fresh straw, malty toffee, lemon rind, aniseed, oily body. Finish: Peppery and malty with leafy/savoury nut shell dryness. Marzipan, sour apple and pear, clove and ginger, malty biscuits. A dry and more leafy/oily lost Speyside malt that reminds me a little bit of Rosebank, another lost distillery from the Lowlands.
