Description
Ardbeg Hypernova 2022 Committee Release Islay Single Malt Scotch
Salty and briny. Smoky – yes but perhaps not as in-your-face as you might expect. Seaweed. Seashells. Tobacco ash and cigar smoke. Stoor burning on old radiators. Pungent peat building over time. Beyond the smoke, there’s also licorice, pepper, a touch of citrus and grass. Even a wee touch of menthol.
The smoke is more to the fore. It’s there from the first sip but it smolders and glows menacingly rather than blazes out of control. Charcoal. Sea salt and black pepper. Brine – like breathing in a damp, sandy beach in winter. There’s also some creamy malt under all the smoke and some fresh lemon citrus with a wee touch of the young oak. The smoke builds in intensity over time.
