Description
2012 Terre del Barolo Barbaresco Riserva
This wine’s fragrance evokes underbrush, toast, chopped celery and prune. The tight, angular palate offers dried cherry, star anise, espresso and sage notes alongside bracing tannins that clench the finish.
Cantina Terre del Barolo is an Italian wine cooperative based just north of the iconic village of Castiglione Falletto in the east of the Barolo wine region, Piedmont. It produces wines from this eponymous DOCG as well as a wide number of labels across the Langhe area, including Nebbiolo d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba and Barbera d’Alba DOC and DOCG-classified wines.
One of Piedmont’s greatest wine regions, Barbaresco rarely gets mentioned without a reference to its neighbor Barolo. Both are among the best expressions of the Nebbiolo grape and where Barolo can be austere and tannic, Barbaresco can be its warmer, more approachable counterpoint.
Barbaresco is one of the great wines of the Piedmont region in northwestern Italy. Historically it was called Nebbiolo di Barbaresco and was used by the Austrian General Melas to celebrate his victory over the French in 1799.
