Kanosuke Distillery’s 2023 vintage release marks a smoky evolution from its previous annual limited editions. This heavily peated single malt is a blend of peated and unpeated malts distilled in 2018 and 2019, aged for an average of 4 to 5 years in a mix of casks, including ex-bourbon barrels, sherry casks, and the distillery’s unique Mellow Kozuru rice shochu American oak casks. Bottled at cask strength, this expression showcases Kanosuke’s craftsmanship, with no added coloring and non-chill filtration.
On the nose, the whiskey offers robust aromas of cinnamon, pastry custard, banana, and smoky incense. The palate is rich and full-bodied, featuring notes of black tea, salted caramel, and baking spices, leading to a dry finish with a lingering balance of salty-sweet smoke.
